SarahAnneBower Zingers..Only thing I like but I can also live without them. Probably only ate them once in the last year. Maybe not at all. Maybe if they hadn't robbed the Co of it's assets they'd still be in business. Union already working for half pay what are they supposed to do it free? Just an excuse to blame others for their willful robbery of this company. Blame the CEO and his cronies. Vulture Capitalism is to blame. So move on.
baxter4315 The morons picketing, who are not unemployed
AngelC71 This is the time for some entrepreneurial bakeshops. C'mon, get creative. Dust off your old and new recipes. You'll make a fortune.
Ripped @kennycollins37 - Dude are you a fucking moron? You keep posting nonsense about how it's all the managements fault. Anyone with 2 braincells to rub together can tell both sides are at fault.
hereisacake I will miss the artery-clogging cholesterol the most.
jtullie "Hostess" the company may go down, but be assured, "HOSTESS" the brand will be bought up buy another company and keep cranking out those yummie snacks.
sunleaflounge Interesting that the CEO ran the company into the ground and expected the UNION to pick up the TAB... They said hell no...& CEO's refused to take a Haircut.. thus the company went under
jasaminemolly @AnnetteDuon - I don't like the union either
jasaminemolly I will miss the jobs. Funny how the offer to buy them them by the Mexican Bimbo who would not be union got them back to the table.
driftergal1 The jobs that kept people off of unemployment, welfare, food stamps. In other words, off of the government teet. They will, however, be solid voters for barackaclause.
jikrauser @SherryRobinson. They do not get the up swing. They sell wholesale. Public buys retail. Their factories are shut down due to a strike. Finally see my previous comments. Their union contracts are not workable on current economy no matter the product demand.
jikrauser All of the rush purchases does not change the fundamentals. Their union contract and the lack of room to fix it is a killer. They cannot go above a certain price point and be competitive. Right now bread and non-bread items must be on different trucks even to the same store and drivers cannot deliver from the truck. All union contract rules the management allowed to happen and now cannot alleviate. Current economic conditions make the business model unworkable. Also they get a wholesale price.
jikrauser Unions are a problem. But so was the management teams that allowed the union terms to be negotiated. That was stupid.
SherryRobinson Funny I just heard they may not go bankrupt after all..after millions of people stocked up on their products when they heard they were...so funny..
jikrauser I think the products will survive. Someone will buy the rights but without the union burden. No one in their right mind should take on the business rules this management team allowed to occur under their watch.
jimraue1 Little Chocolate Donuts & all of the above!!!
ztbell21 UPDATE: Hostess is NOT going down without a fight with the Union. El Grupo Bimbo, a Mexican-owned baking company, is looking into buying Hostess, and the Union is in arbitration with Silver Point Capital
kennycollins37 Crony capitalism and consistently poor management. Oh, but as long as the country is made up of anti-union wingnuts like the ones on this page we will always have a race to the bottom for middle class.
sfcanyon Trumka is a commie asshole. Unions must be busted across the board. As for libtards like sunleaflounge, how's all that fucking hope and change shit working out for you now asshole? every ceo and business owner in this country needs to outright fire anyone with a liberal/democrat slogan or sticker on their car then maybe the idiots will get the picture...don't shit where you sleep. even dogs can understand it.
SherryRobinson This should scare the crap out of every American..obama has destroyed all that is precious to us..
baxter4315 Won't miss anything they have been making this stuff since 1930. There must be warehouses full of this stuff. It has a shelf life that puts radio active material to shame.
PennyWells I don't buy anything that they sell. It's all garbage, but I hate it that the stupidity of the Union and employees to vote for a nation wide strike now. How dumb is that...
memiket What happened to RING DINGS? Way better than Ding Dongs. Hey, but how stupid was the Bakers Union?
Douglas911 As a former Air Traffic Controller and a member of the PATCO strike in 1981 I see this as the beginning of the dismantling of the Unions. About time. If I was one of the union members that had agreed to the contract and still lost my job, I would be hot.
Ripped @kennycollins37 - $18.00 an hour to load Twinkies on a truck? Seriously dude, that is about $9.00 per hour more than that job is worth. I do agree with you about poor management, I would have booted the union thugs and their overpriced labor out of Hostess years ago if I were in charge.
Rest assured, we will be enjoying Twinkies again long before the unskilled labor that are former Hostess employees ever find jobs at those rates of pay.
MonicaMennen To kenny collins... ummm.. Euope IS going broke...and its the greedy union members that caused this. Read the details. CEOS working for a buck a year often times..but union members wanting a triple raise, when company is in bankruptcy is what's greedy in this story.. and stupid!!! Now that greed cost themselves and 18,500 others their jobs!! SHAME!
sdtesar Yellow Zingers, followed closely by Apple Fruit Pies
kennycollins37 This country will never get back on track as long as people blame Unions for the greed of Capitalism. If Unions caused bankruptcy then every company in Scandinavia and most of Europa should be broke.
kennycollins37 Unions did not kill Twinkies, It was poor management and greedy CEO's,
prettymudwoman The joke about how a police officer can tell whether someone has been smoking pot while driving. They put a CD of Lead Zeppelin in the player and a Twinkie on the dashboard. If the suspect can get through the entire CD without grabbing the Twinkie, then they probably have not been smoking pot.
MonicaMennen All of it! from the products to the nostalgia. Another fine example of how liberals and their unions/entitlement greed and stupidity cant see TRUTH to their own demise. Only now..since they are put in power...thier horrible decisions ruin it for EVERYONE! GOd help us.
Ripped What's to miss? There are so many knock off/generic brands that taste just as good and cost half the price.
Looks to me like the idiot unions just negotiated the fools that pay them every month out of a job. How can people be so stupid?
cliffordlosee1 It has been a long time since I have eaten any of their products, so I personally won't miss them. Too bad about the jobs, but look on the bright side. Now they are not trapped into a socialized type of job and are free to look at other more exhilarating opportunities. Hope they can find something that unions have not destroyed.
Patb I haven't had any Hostess product FOR YEARS so I won't miss any of them
ScottMcNealy BIg Labor drives another nail in. Big Business may be bad in many eyes but it is way better than Big Labor cavorting with Big Government.
JohnGicking The unions would not let the power workers, that went to New York and New Jersey, to help with out them having to pay union dues. Unions were good at one time but not any more.
4RonPaul The loss of 18,500 jobs due to a union that would not compromise. The TEAMSTERS made a deal with Hostess for crying out loud. Do these bakers in this union think there are that many baking jobs available these days? Stupid move.
dcnewman17 The unions must go! Companies need to make these outrageous union demands more public, different trucks and routes for each product, etc., ridiculous!
juliandh Funny isn't it? The unions leaders who are to provide their members with jobs instead have chosen to destroy jobs. They have demonstrated that their sole care is MONEY. We are in a depression, near major holidays, and members now have no income, no food, no nothing. Oh, the union bosses have it all, but the workers have nothing. The leaders really do care, but only about themselves!
Let's not forget about an American icon. They single handedly destroyed it too.
govworker I just hope they go to a free to work state, and give non-union people who want to work the jobs! I only buy American; But only buy non-union made.it is getting harder to find American made products which are non union made.Drive a hyundae, built in America.
jmae They were never in my diet, however I have eaten a twinkie once!!!!
eldercowden we can thank our government and unions. for this and there is more to come. just wait and see. Government is backwards it is very sad I bet the Presidents Wife is very HAPPY about this !
RichardKoschier Sad that another great company goes down because our government sucks.
jaxjm The 18,000 + jobs lost by workers because of a greedy labor union is what I will think about and miss most.
ztbell21 @Shimmo - No, the Police have switched to Krispy Kreme Doughnuts and the cheaper Little Debbie because of budget cuts. It's a sad day for an obese car driver somewhere...
ztbell21 @kelc0713 - Costco-sized will be too small. Try Sam's-Club Mega-size!
ztbell21 Also a sad day for anything else owned by Hostess! Hopefully they'll be bought by a better owner...
AnnaMarieSanderson I am hoping Pepsi-Co Incorporated purchases it. They already have Frito Lay and Grandma's Cookies so the Hostess line would be a great addition to their munchies line up.
TheRowan I think the Drake company or whoever the parent company is, should consider purchasing this. Then they can add it to their Funnybones snack...Yummy...
timbatten A free market corporation that is forced out of business by communist union workers.
DaveRuesch The Union does it again, destroys company's and helps people to be lazy.
jmharlow The cupcakes. Preferred to the Ding Dongs
cassesq Hostess cupcakes. As a kid/teenager, I had acne and the woman who raised me wouldn't let me have chocolate. It was heaven getting the money and time away from her to grab a pair of Hostess cupcakes and chow down.
joanb36 union members should go "American- entrepreneurial-style(use their own money and collateral,) do a business plan, get a loan, buy Hostess. Hear it's for sale. Might want to check with Trumka to negotiate union wages before they start to see if shareholders can afford to pay union wages, benefits.
demccall One less source of junk food. No loss for me but a big loss for all the workers who were foolish enough to believe their union bosses.
bpdouglass Interested to see who buys their assets... and recipes.
sunleaflounge They go down...other companies make more money.. There Lose
outrider Lets look at the bright side those 23 million americans collecting unemployment checks are going to have 20,000 more people to hang out with, thanks to the unions calling a strike on a company in chapter 11. Simply Brilliant !
